Amref Health Africa was founded in 1957 and has since grown to become the largest African-based international
health development organization, currently implementing more than 120 programs, directly reaching more than
12 million people across 35 African countries. Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, Amref Health Africa has offices in
ten countries in Africa and an additional eleven advocacy and fundraising offices in Europe and North America.

Responsibilities

Provide direct technical expertise on;

  • Lead the strategic oversight and technical delivery of Governance and accountability, Policy and strategic
    partnerships to ensure quality delivery and synergies with the other components of the programme.
  • Work closely with all program advisors to develop coordinated approaches to sustainably improving public
    sector investments in health, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health in particular, at
    the cluster level
  • Provide targeted technical support to the technical officers to ensure the results framework for the county is
    achieved.
    Guiding program design:
  • Support cluster program staff to design programs and projects.
  • Help define the approach to teaming/partnering with other organizations at the cluster level
  • Support shared learning among counties in the cluster
    Building the technical capacity of county program staff to ensure ongoing program quality and innovation:
  • Work with county program colleagues to help analyze data that inform periodic review and course correction
    as needed.
  • Share cross-context learning with program staff across the cluster.
  • Review and share program-specific tools/resources

Qualifications

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, Management, Business
    Administration, or a related field.
  • At least Seven (7) years of Public Health experience, three (3) of which must be in a leadership position
    managing, complex service delivery and/ or Health Systems Strengthening programs of similar scope and
    dollar value.
  • A master’s degree in Public Health or Health Systems Management is an added advantage
  • A thorough knowledge of the devolved health system in Kenya, experience working with county management
    teams is highly desired
  • Working knowledge of USAID policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of administration, human resources (HR) practices, budget management.
  • Experience recruiting, forming, and successfully managing teams and ensuring the quality of their products.
  • Demonstrated success in multicultural environments is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required
